It feels good to be back. The past few months have been of reckoning, soul searching and ideating.

As the world opens up and travel starts to happen again, I am all excited to meet people and get the thoughts to intermingle in the PC (Post Covid) era.

Well, coming back to the most common words being used in the intellectual circuit today – AI, ML, Agile, Digital, Cloud, Containers, Microservices and Low Code. It is interesting to see that these are being equally enthusiastically discussed between the Business and IT gurus.

While others are definitive technologies, implementation styles or infrastructure related, Digital (read Digital Transformation) and Low Code are the most intriguing.

At least, I find it so!

I often say in my conferences that Digital is concept. A concept of always being ahead of times. A concept belonging to the Avant-garde.

I believe that all of the following were Digital in their own times

  1. Marconi inventing long distance radio communication
  2. Graham Bell inventing the telephone
  3. Newton coming up with laws of physics
  4. Ford revolutionising the motor cars
  5. Wright brothers working on aircrafts
  6. The cellphones, the wearables etc etc.

Digital is about how the lives of people were changed for the better by a few individuals who chose to think differently.

The “FORM” of Digital keeps on changing with the times.

Till two years back, an agent walking uptown your home and opening an account was Digital Transformation. However, it has entirely changed.

This change is not only led by organisations but also by regulators.

Organisations have started to adopt multiple channels of onboarding as Mobile and Portals and regulators are supporting it by allowing e and vKYC.

Hence, just like Monalisa Smile, it is not about the “FORM” but the “ESSENCE” which establishes the concept of Digital.

The eternal Monalisa smile… Just like Digital

Low Code is being seen as the magic wand which would transform everything. Low Code, just like Digital, is an ideology. An Ideology to create complex business applications with minimal or now code.

In a business scenario, the different entities and ecosystems need to be working in harmony in a connected environment so that there are no broken elements. Today, business needs automation of business processes and connecting the ecosystem.

This is further complicated by processes being intricately coexisting with documents and communications. Add to this complexity of the channels of working including Portals and Mobile Applications.

While each of these may be easy to work on within themselves, each when integrated would become a mammoth.

This is where the philosophy of Low Code comes in and this is why I call it an ideology rather than a tool.

The power of low code lies in giving the power to the end users and business users rather than relying entirely on IT to change the monolith systems.

This ideology transcends everything that is required to be done.

  1. Low Code Portal
  2. Low Code Mobility App
  3. Low Code Integration
  4. Low Code Processing and Workflow
  5. Low Code Reports
  6. Low Code Content Management
  7. Low Code Database and Application design
  8. Low Code Customer Communications design
  9. Low code Changes to the system for faster product rollouts

When one designs the processes for users and ecosystem to connect, when one records a BOT, when one designs a communication etc etc., when conceptualised and implemented on a Low Code Framework gives far reaching results.

Combine it with the power of Cloud, you have a winner.

A Bank, for example, today, is faced with a host of challenges which need to be addressed. This can only be done if the ideology behind the entire transform is based on innovation. The agility cannot come from monolith applications.

In essence, an organisation has to concentrate on the basics for revamping the NEXT. If it looks for tools for fulfilling gaps, it would go a certain mile. But if the organisation is looking to make a mark, it must look at the soul of Digital and Low Code.
